THE STRAIGHT AND NARROW- Comes from Matthew 7:14. In the King James version of the Bible, published in 1611, he says: ‘Strait is the gate and narrow is the way which leadeth to life’.
The old English word strait meant tight or narrow but when it went out of use the phrase changed to ‘STRAIGHT and narrow’.
